Assessing the need for a food pantry on your campus is an important step in the planning process. With statistics showing the need for this resource, it is much easier to request space (Step 2) to realize your plans. To assess the need on Tennessee Tech's campus, we used the following methods:
- Online surveys: Using our campus e-newsletter, Tech Times, we surveyed students, faculty and staff to see if they believed a campus-based food pantry would be a useful resource to our campus community.
Suggestion: Ask questions that are easily answered, such as:
- Office of Financial Aid: They were able to provide statistics detailing the number of students receiving education grants based on financial need.
Remember: If you're really serious about opening a successful campus food pantry, it is important to show the need on your campus.
